Add and use a proxy

Updated 18 October 2026 · 4 min read

A proxy routes the traffic of a run through another server. The platform then sees the IP address of the proxy, not the IP address of your computer.

Key facts:

  • The app supports HTTP and HTTPS proxies.
  • You can save up to 50 proxies.
  • Each account can have a default proxy.
  • Each run can override the default proxy of the account.
  • If a run has no proxy, it uses the connection of your computer.

Add a proxy#

  1. Click "Proxies" in the left sidebar.
  2. Click "Add proxy".
  3. Enter a "Name" for the proxy.
  4. Enter the "Host", for example 1.2.3.4 or http://1.2.3.4.
  5. Enter the "Port".
  6. If the proxy needs a sign-in, enter the "Username" and the "Password".
  7. Click "Test connection".
  8. If the test shows "Connected" and the outbound IP address, click "Add proxy".

The "Add proxy" button stays disabled until a test succeeds. If you change a field after a successful test, test again before you save. If the test fails, read the message, fix the fields, and test again. The troubleshooting table below explains the messages.

The proxy list shows the status of each proxy: "Online", "Offline", or "Checking…".

Assign a default proxy to an account#

  1. Click "Accounts" in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the account card to expand it.
  3. Find the "Default proxy" section.
  4. Select the proxy. To use no proxy, select "None (use desktop IP)".

Runs with this account now use this proxy, unless a run overrides it.

Use a proxy for one run#

  1. Open the run page of the automation.
  2. Find the "Proxy" field.
  3. Select a saved proxy.

The run-page selection wins over the default proxy of the account. If you select nothing, the run uses the default proxy of the account.

Test, edit, or delete a proxy#

Test all proxies:

  1. Click "Proxies" in the left sidebar.
  2. Click "Check status".

Edit a proxy:

  1. Click the pencil icon on the row.
  2. Change the fields.
  3. Click "Test connection".
  4. Click "Save changes".

When you edit, the "Password" field shows the hint "Leave blank to test/save with the current password". Type a new password only to change it.

Delete a proxy:

  1. Click the trash icon on the row.
  2. Click "Delete" in the confirmation dialog.

Accounts that use this proxy as their default fall back to the connection of your computer. The deletion cannot be undone.

What happens when a proxy is offline#

The app tests the proxy before each run that uses it. If the proxy is unreachable, the app blocks the run. The banner shows "Selected proxy is unreachable" with the error, and ends with "Fix or unassign it before running."

When the app starts, it tests all saved proxies. If some proxies fail, a banner in the bottom right corner shows the count and the names.

To fix an unreachable proxy:

  1. Open the "Proxies" tab.
  2. Click the pencil icon on the proxy.
  3. Fix the fields.
  4. Click "Test connection".
  5. If the test succeeds, click "Save changes".

You can also unassign the proxy from the account and run without it.

FAQs#

Which proxy types work? HTTP and HTTPS proxies. If you enter the host without a scheme, the app uses http://.

Where do I get a proxy? From a proxy provider. You need the host and the port. Some providers also give you a username and a password.

Is my proxy password safe? The app stores proxy passwords encrypted on your computer.

Can many accounts use the same proxy? Yes. A saved proxy can be the default proxy of many accounts. Each account can also have its own default proxy.

How many proxies can I save? 50. At the limit, the app tells you that you reached the 50-proxy limit and asks you to delete one before you add another.

Which IP address does a run use without a proxy? The IP address of your internet connection. The app calls this the desktop IP.

Troubleshooting#

The table explains the messages that a failed connection test can show.

Message What to do
"Connection refused by the proxy host." Make sure that the host and the port are correct. Make sure that the proxy server runs.
"Connection was reset by the proxy." Test again. If the message stays, contact your proxy provider.
"Timed out connecting to the proxy." Test again. If the message stays, the proxy is slow or down. Contact your provider.
A message that the app could not resolve the proxy host. Fix the spelling of the host.
"Proxy host is unreachable." Make sure that your internet connection works. Make sure that the proxy server is online.
A message that the proxy did not respond like a valid HTTPS proxy. Make sure that the port belongs to an HTTP or HTTPS proxy.
"Proxy responded with status" and a number Make sure that the username and the password are correct.
