Updated 18 October 2026 · 4 min read

This guide covers four tasks:

  1. Download the app.
  2. Install the app.
  3. Activate your license key.
  4. Set the default export folder.

The last section shows how to update the app.

Before you start#

  • You need a Windows or Mac computer with an internet connection.
  • You need the email and license key from your purchase.
  • The license key has the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
  • AppSumo buyers get their keys on the redeem page and in the email "Your TexAu Desktop key". If you cannot find your key, contact TexAu support at support@texau.com. Support can send a replacement key.

Download the app#

Use the download link for your computer:

Computer Download link
Windows (64-bit) https://texau-desktop-releases.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/releases/latest/texau-windows-latest.exe
Mac with Intel processor https://texau-desktop-releases.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/releases/latest/texau-mac-latest.dmg
Mac with Apple silicon https://texau-desktop-releases.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/releases/latest/texau-mac-arm64-latest.dmg
  1. Open the link for your computer in your browser.
  2. Save the file to your computer.

If you do not know which Mac you have, open the Apple menu and select "About This Mac". If the window shows a chip that starts with "Apple M", download the Apple silicon file. If the window shows an Intel processor, download the Intel file.

Install the app#

Windows#

  1. Open the downloaded installer file.
  2. Follow the installer steps. You can change the install folder.
  3. Start TexAu from the desktop shortcut or the Start Menu.

Mac#

  1. Open the downloaded disk image file.
  2. Drag TexAu to the "Applications" folder.
  3. Open TexAu from the "Applications" folder.

The Mac app is signed and notarized, so macOS opens it without a security warning.

Activate your license key#

  1. Open TexAu. The app shows "Verifying license" while it looks for a saved activation.
  2. If the app finds no valid license, it shows the "Activate TexAu Desktop" screen.
  3. Enter the email from your purchase in the "Email" field.
  4. Enter your key in the "License key" field.
  5. Click "Activate".

The app activates this computer and opens the main window. Each license key works on one computer at a time. Your plan gives you one key for each machine. To move the license to another computer, read guide 5.

Activation problems#

The table explains the messages that the activation screen can show.

Message Cause What to do
"Enter both email and license key." A field is empty. Enter both values.
A message that says no license was found for that email and key. The email or the key is wrong. Copy the key again from your purchase. Make sure that there are no extra spaces. Enter your email in all lowercase letters, then click "Activate" again.
"This license is already active on another device." The license is in use on another computer. Remove the other device. Read guide 5.
"This license has expired. Please renew it to continue using TexAu Desktop." The license expired. Renew your license.
"This license has been permanently revoked and cannot be reused." The license was revoked. Purchase a new license.
"Unable to reach the license server. Check your internet connection and try again." No connection to the license server. Make sure that the computer is online. Then click "Retry" or "Activate" again.

Set the default export folder#

The app writes the results of every run to a CSV file in this folder. The app blocks all runs until you set the folder.

  1. Click "Settings" in the left sidebar.
  2. Stay on the "Preferences" tab.
  3. Find the "Exports" section.
  4. Click "Browse" next to "Default export location".
  5. Choose a folder in the dialog.

The app shows the selected path under "Default export location". From now on, the app writes one CSV file per run to this folder. The file name contains the automation name and the start time of the run.

If you clear the folder, the app tells you that the export location was removed and that automations will not run until you set a folder. The "Run automation" button stays disabled until you set a folder again.

Update the app#

The app downloads updates automatically. When an update is ready, the app shows "Update ready to install". Click "Restart now" to finish the update.

To look for an update manually:

  1. Click "Settings" in the left sidebar.
  2. Stay on the "Preferences" tab.
  3. Find the "Updates" section.
  4. Click "Check for updates".

The section shows the result, for example "You're on the latest version."

FAQs#

Where do I get a license key? The key comes with your purchase. AppSumo buyers get it on the redeem page and in the email "Your TexAu Desktop key". If you cannot find your key, contact TexAu support at support@texau.com. Support can send a replacement key, and the old key then stops working.

Can I use one license key on two computers? No. One key has one active device. If your plan has more than one machine, use a different key on each computer. To move a key to another computer, remove the first device. Read guide 5.

Does the app work offline? No. The app contacts the license server when it starts. Automations also contact the platform APIs. Keep the computer online.

Where do my results go? Each run writes one CSV file to the default export folder. You can also export the results again from the History tab.

How do I see my license details? Open "Settings" and then the "Account" tab. The "License" section shows the email, the plan, the expiry date, and the last verification.
