Why this automation is useful#

Threads carry the real questions of a community. Scrolling a busy channel to find them wastes hours. This automation writes the threads of one channel to a CSV for analysis.

Reply counts and reaction counts show which topics get attention. Product and support teams can rank the questions that come up most.

The automation works only on channels you can access in a connected workspace.

Use cases#

  1. Mine a community channel for content ideas. Export the threads of a topic channel in a community you joined. Sort by Replies Count. The questions with the most replies become your next posts, docs, or videos.
  2. Find prospects who complain about a competitor. Export threads from a channel where members discuss tools. Search the CSV for the competitor name. Members with complaints get a comparison offer from your sales team.
  3. Measure support load in a customer community. Export the threads of the help channel. Count threads per week and responders per thread. Staff the support team against real volume.
  4. Research voice-of-customer language. Export product feedback threads. Quote exact member phrasing in your landing page copy. Real words beat invented claims.
  5. Agency play: report community health to clients. Export the threads of the client key channels each month. Track replies and responders over time. Show the trend in your monthly report.

How to use it#

  1. Connect your Slack workspace with the TexAu browser extension. Read Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension for the steps.
  2. Open Slack Channel Threads Export in the TexAu Desktop app.
  3. Enter the inputs. Paste the channel URL. The format is https://app.slack.com/client/T12345678/C12345678.
  4. Run the automation.
  5. Open the CSV in your export folder when the run ends.

Limits and limitations#

  • This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply.
  • One run exports the threads of one channel. No extract-limit input exists on this automation.
  • The automation works only on channels your account can access.
  • Private channels require membership before extraction.
  • Slack can change its product at any time.

FAQ#

Q: How many channels can I export per day? A: This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply. One run covers one channel.

Q: Can Slack restrict my account? A: Yes. Slack can restrict your account if you exceed normal usage. TexAu adds random delays between actions. Keep volumes moderate.

Q: Do I need a proxy? A: A proxy is not required for one account. Use one proxy per account when you run many accounts.

Q: What account do I need? A: A free Slack account is enough. You must be a member of the workspace.

Q: Does the automation dedupe threads? A: TexAu dedupes repeated runs of the same input. Keep your CSVs clean by not re-running the same input.

Q: Where do results go? A: Results save as a CSV in your export folder. You can also find past runs in the History section of the app.

Q: Does this export the replies inside each thread? A: It lists each thread with its message and reply counts. Use Slack Thread Messages Export to get every reply inside one thread.

Q: Can I export a private channel? A: Yes, if your account is a member of that private channel.

Troubleshooting#

The workspace picker is empty. The Slack workspace is not connected. Connect the workspace with the TexAu browser extension. See Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension.

The run fails with an invalid URL error. Copy the URL exactly as the Inputs table shows. The automation checks the URL format before it runs.

The CSV has fewer results than expected. Your Slack plan controls how much history a search returns. Free workspaces show a limited message history. This is normal Slack behavior.

The automation stops before the run completes. You reached a rate limit window. Wait for the window to reset, then run the automation again. See Manage rate limits.

The same run fails several times. Note the exact error message from the app. Contact TexAu support and include this message and the automation name.
