Why this automation is useful#

Workspaces collect thousands of files. Slack search shows them a few at a time. This automation writes the full result set to a CSV.

Slack search syntax works in the keyword field. For example, invoices type:pdfs finds PDF invoices only. You get a clean file index without manual search sessions.

The export covers files your account can see in the workspace. Private files of other members stay private.

Use cases#

  1. Build an internal knowledge index. Search for documents by quarter or topic. Export titles and Doc URLs. Hand the index to new hires on day one.
  2. Agency play: audit a client workspace before a migration. Export all files by type. Flag large files by File Size. Plan the migration around real volume.
  3. Recover invoices for bookkeeping. Search invoices type:pdfs. Export the list with download URLs. Send the CSV to your accountant.
  4. Collect shared resources from a community. In a community you joined, search for shared templates or reports. Export titles and URLs. Build a swipe file for your content team.
  5. Find sales collateral fast. Search proposal or deck. Get URLs for every match. Send the freshest file to the prospect.

How to use it#

  1. Connect your Slack workspace with the TexAu browser extension. Read Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension for the steps.
  2. Open Slack File Search Export in the TexAu Desktop app.
  3. Enter the search keywords. Slack syntax works, for example invoices type:pdfs.
  4. Set the extract limit. The maximum is 5,000 files per launch.
  5. Run the automation.
  6. Open the CSV in your export folder when the run ends.

Limits and limitations#

  • This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply.
  • Maximum 5,000 files per launch.
  • The search covers files your account can access in the workspace.
  • The automation exports metadata and URLs. It does not download the files.
  • Slack can change its product at any time.

FAQ#

Q: How many files can I export per day? A: This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply. The extract cap is 5,000 files per launch.

Q: Can Slack restrict my account? A: Yes. Slack can restrict your account if you exceed normal usage. TexAu adds random delays between actions. Keep volumes moderate.

Q: Do I need a proxy? A: A proxy is not required for one account. Use one proxy per account when you run many accounts.

Q: What account do I need? A: A free Slack account is enough. You must be a member of the workspace.

Q: Does the automation dedupe files? A: TexAu dedupes repeated runs of the same input. Keep your CSVs clean by not re-running the same input.

Q: Where do results go? A: Results save as a CSV in your export folder. You can also find past runs in the History section of the app.

Q: Does the automation download the files? A: No. It exports file metadata and URLs. Open a Doc URL to view the file.

Q: What search syntax can I use? A: The keyword field supports Slack search syntax. For example, invoices type:pdfs finds PDF invoices only.

Troubleshooting#

The workspace picker is empty. The Slack workspace is not connected. Connect the workspace with the TexAu browser extension. See Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension.

The run fails with an invalid URL error. Copy the URL exactly as the Inputs table shows. The automation checks the URL format before it runs.

The CSV has fewer results than expected. Your Slack plan controls how much history a search returns. Free workspaces show a limited message history. This is normal Slack behavior.

The automation stops before it reaches my extract limit. You reached a rate limit window. Wait for the window to reset, then run the automation again. See Manage rate limits.

The same run fails several times. Note the exact error message from the app. Contact TexAu support and include this message and the automation name.
