Why this automation is useful#

Large workspaces hide hundreds of channels. Slack shows them in small batches. This automation writes the full list to a CSV.

Member counts show where the community lives. The Membership column marks the channels you already joined.

One run covers one workspace.

Use cases#

  1. Map a community before a campaign. Export the channel list of a community you joined. Sort by Members Count. Pick the three largest relevant channels for your engagement plan.
  2. Agency play: audit a client workspace. Export all channels with member counts and last update dates. Flag dead channels with old dates. Recommend an archive list to the client.
  3. Find niche channels for recruiting. Export the list of a developer community workspace. Search the CSV for skill keywords in channel names. Join the channels where your candidates talk.
  4. Plan a launch inside your product community. Export your channels. Check membership and member counts. Post the launch where your members already gather.
  5. Clean up channel sprawl. Export the list. Sort by Members Count ascending. Channels with zero or one member become archive candidates for the admin.

How to use it#

  1. Connect your Slack workspace with the TexAu browser extension. Read Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension for the steps.
  2. Open Slack Workspace Channels Export in the TexAu Desktop app.
  3. Pick your connected workspace.
  4. Set the extract limit. The maximum is 2,499 channels per launch.
  5. Run the automation.
  6. Open the CSV in your export folder when the run ends.

  • Slack can change its product at any time.

FAQ#

Q: How many channels can I export per day? A: This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply. The extract cap is 2,499 channels per launch.

Q: Can Slack restrict my account? A: Yes. Slack can restrict your account if you exceed normal usage. TexAu adds random delays between actions. Keep volumes moderate.

Q: Do I need a proxy? A: A proxy is not required for one account. Use one proxy per account when you run many accounts.

Q: What account do I need? A: A free Slack account is enough. You must be a member of the workspace.

Q: Does the automation dedupe channels? A: TexAu dedupes repeated runs of the same input. Keep your CSVs clean by not re-running the same input.

Q: Where do results go? A: Results save as a CSV in your export folder. You can also find past runs in the History section of the app.

Q: Does the export include private channels? A: It covers channels visible to your account. Private channels you joined appear in the list.

Q: How do I find which channels to join? A: Sort the CSV by Members Count. Filter the Membership column for NO. Join the large channels where you are not a member yet.

Troubleshooting#

The workspace picker is empty. The Slack workspace is not connected. Connect the workspace with the TexAu browser extension. See Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension.

The run fails with an invalid URL error. Copy the URL exactly as the Inputs table shows. The automation checks the URL format before it runs.

The CSV has fewer results than expected. Your Slack plan controls how much history a search returns. Free workspaces show a limited message history. This is normal Slack behavior.

The automation stops before it reaches my extract limit. You reached a rate limit window. Wait for the window to reset, then run the automation again. See Manage rate limits.

The same run fails several times. Note the exact error message from the app. Contact TexAu support and include this message and the automation name.
