Remove a device or revoke your license
Each license key has one active device: the computer where you activated it. If your plan has more than one machine, each key has its own device. The "Devices & Security" section in "Settings" has two actions:
- "Remove this device" frees the license, so you can activate it on another computer.
- "Revoke license" disables the license permanently on every computer.
The table compares the two actions:
| Remove this device | Revoke license | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Move the license to another computer | Disable the license forever |
| License stays valid | Yes | No |
| Can be undone | Yes. Activate again with the same email and key. | No |
| Local data on this computer | Deleted | Deleted |
Local data means the connected accounts, the run history, and the usage data. Exported CSV files in your export folder are not deleted.
Move your license to a new computer#
- On the old computer, open TexAu.
- Click "Settings" in the left sidebar.
- Open the "Account" tab.
- Find the "Devices & Security" section.
- Click "Remove device" next to "Remove this device".
- Read the warning. If you need any files, save them first.
- Type
CONFIRMinto the field. - Click "Confirm removal".
The app removes the device, deletes the local data, and returns to the activation screen. The warning says: "All your connected accounts and usage history will be permanently deleted. This cannot be undone. Please save any files you need before continuing."
Then, on the new computer:
- Install TexAu. Read guide 1.
- Activate the app with the same email and license key.
- Set the default export folder again.
- Connect your accounts again. Read guide 2.
Revoke your license#
CAUTION: Do not revoke your license unless you are sure. Revoking is permanent. It disables the license on every device, and no one can undo it.
- Click "Settings" in the left sidebar.
- Open the "Account" tab.
- Find the "Devices & Security" section.
- Click "Revoke license".
- Read the warning.
- Type your license email into the field.
- Click "Permanently revoke license".
The app revokes the license, deletes the local data, and returns to the activation screen. The license can never be used again. To use TexAu again, you must purchase a new license.
FAQs#
How many devices can I use at the same time? One for each license key. Your plan gives you one key for each machine. If you activate a second computer with the same key, the app shows "This license is active on another device." Remove the first device, or use another key.
I no longer have the old computer. How do I move the license? Contact TexAu support. Support can clear the old activation. Then activate the new computer with the same email and key.
Does "Remove device" cancel my license? No. The license stays valid. You can activate it on another computer immediately.
What data does the removal delete? The connected accounts, the run history, and the usage data on this computer. Exported CSV files in your export folder stay on the computer.
Can I undo a revoke? No. A revoked license stays revoked. The activation screen shows "This license has been permanently revoked." You must purchase a new license.
Where do I see my license details? Open "Settings" and then the "Account" tab. The "License" section shows the email, part of the license key, the plan, the expiry date, and the last verification.
