Why this automation is useful#

Keyword search in Slack shows results one page at a time. This automation writes up to 5,000 matches to a CSV. You can filter, sort, and share the data.

Each row carries the message text, the channel name, and the message URL. Open the URL to read the full context in Slack.

The search covers conversations your account can see in the workspace.

Use cases#

  1. Find buying signals in a community you joined. Search for phrases like looking for or any tool for. Export the matches. Contact the authors or note them for outreach.
  2. Mine recurring complaints for customer-support insight. Search your product community for bug or does not work. Count matches per month. Route the top issues to the product team.
  3. Track competitor mentions in shared channels. Search for the competitor name. Export every mention with dates. Sales uses the complaints in battle cards.
  4. Find members who talk about a skill for recruiting. Search for the skill keyword. Get the authors and their handles. Review profiles and contact the shortlist.
  5. Agency play: track brand mentions for a client. Search the client brand name across the workspace. Export mentions with channel names. Add the weekly count to the client report.

How to use it#

  1. Connect your Slack workspace with the TexAu browser extension. Read Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension for the steps.
  2. Open Slack Message Search Export in the TexAu Desktop app.
  3. Enter the search keywords. One run takes one keyword string.
  4. Set the extract limit. The maximum is 5,000 messages per launch.
  5. Run the automation.
  6. Open the CSV in your export folder when the run ends.

Limits and limitations#

  • This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply.
  • Maximum 5,000 messages per launch.
  • The search covers conversations your account can access.
  • Private conversations of other members stay private.
  • Slack can change its product at any time.

FAQ#

Q: How many messages can I export per day? A: This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply. The extract cap is 5,000 messages per launch.

Q: Can Slack restrict my account? A: Yes. Slack can restrict your account if you exceed normal usage. TexAu adds random delays between actions. Keep volumes moderate.

Q: Do I need a proxy? A: A proxy is not required for one account. Use one proxy per account when you run many accounts.

Q: What account do I need? A: A free Slack account is enough. You must be a member of the workspace.

Q: Does the automation dedupe messages? A: TexAu dedupes repeated runs of the same input. Keep your CSVs clean by not re-running the same input.

Q: Where do results go? A: Results save as a CSV in your export folder. You can also find past runs in the History section of the app.

Q: Can I search several keywords at once? A: Enter one keyword string per run. Run the automation again with the next keyword.

Q: Which messages does the search cover? A: Messages in channels and conversations your account can access. Private conversations of other members stay private.

Troubleshooting#

The workspace picker is empty. The Slack workspace is not connected. Connect the workspace with the TexAu browser extension. See Connect accounts with the TexAu browser extension.

The run fails with an invalid URL error. Copy the URL exactly as the Inputs table shows. The automation checks the URL format before it runs.

The CSV has fewer results than expected. Your Slack plan controls how much history a search returns. Free workspaces show a limited message history. This is normal Slack behavior.

The automation stops before it reaches my extract limit. You reached a rate limit window. Wait for the window to reset, then run the automation again. See Manage rate limits.

The same run fails several times. Note the exact error message from the app. Contact TexAu support and include this message and the automation name.
