Why this automation is useful#
Meta tags tell search engines and social platforms how to show a page. Weak or missing tags cost clicks. Manual review of every page is slow.
This automation reads the full meta block of a page in one run. You get title, description, keywords, author, generator, viewport, and social tags in one CSV.
The data supports SEO audits, competitor research, and share-preview checks. You compare many pages without opening a browser tab for each one.
Use cases#
- Audit competitor metadata for SEO gaps. Run the automation on the top pages of each competitor. Compare title tags and descriptions against your own pages. Rewrite the pages where competitors target terms you miss.
- Prepare an agency pitch with hard evidence. Pull the metadata of the prospect key pages before the call. Show missing descriptions, absent Open Graph tags, or weak titles. Attach the findings to your proposal.
- Build a metadata inventory for a client site. Run every important page URL. The CSV lists titles and descriptions side by side. Flag empty, duplicate, or truncated entries for the fix list.
- Check social share previews before a launch. The export includes Twitter card and Open Graph fields. Find pages with a missing OG Image or Twitter Card value. Fix those tags before the campaign drives shares.
- Prospect for freelance SEO work. Run the automation on local business sites in your niche. Find sites with empty descriptions or a missing viewport tag. Send a pitch that names the exact gap.
- Qualify prospects for a redesign offer. The Generator and Viewport fields reveal the site builder and mobile readiness. Filter for outdated generators. Pitch a rebuild to those companies.
How to use it#
- Open Website Metadata Extractor in the TexAu Desktop app.
- Enter the website URL. Use the full URL, for example https://www.texau.com/.
- Run the automation.
- Open the CSV in your export folder when the run ends.
No account connection is needed. The automation reads public web pages from your computer.
Limits and limitations#
- This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply.
- If a site blocks crawlers or loads slowly, the run returns fewer fields.
- The automation reads public pages only. Pages behind a login are not available.
- Some sites publish few meta tags. Empty fields reflect the page itself.
FAQ#
Q: Is there a daily run limit? A: This automation has no built-in execution limit. Your account rate limits still apply.
Q: Do I need an account or a subscription? A: No. The automation reads public websites. No platform account or paid subscription is needed.
Q: Can a website block the automation? A: Yes. Some sites block crawlers or respond slowly. If that happens, the run returns fewer fields. Re-run the URL later or open the site in your browser to check access.
Q: Do I need a proxy? A: A proxy is not required for normal use. A proxy helps when you crawl many sites that block crawlers.
Q: What are Open Graph and Twitter tags? A: They control how a page looks when someone shares it on social platforms. Missing tags mean an empty or broken share preview.
Q: Why are fields empty in my CSV? A: The page does not publish those tags, or the site blocked the crawler. Empty fields reflect the page itself.
Q: Does the automation dedupe results? A: TexAu dedupes repeated runs of the same input. Keep your CSVs clean by not re-running the same input.
Q: Where do the results go? A: Results save as a CSV in your export folder. You can also find past runs in the History section of the app.
Troubleshooting#
The run fails with an invalid URL error. Copy the URL exactly as the Inputs table shows. The automation checks the URL format before it runs.
Some fields are empty in the CSV. The source page does not publish every field for every result. The automation returns the fields that the page shows.
The CSV has fewer results than expected. The website blocked the crawl or answered slowly. Run the automation again, or try the main page URL.
The same run fails several times. Note the exact error message from the app. Contact TexAu support and include this message and the automation name.
